Big Square Friends
As an artist, I use my photography to explore everything around me. In fact, my friends and fellow students have often suggested that photography is my primary means of communicating. I attempt, as Henri Cartier-Bresson suggested, “…to grasp the interior silence of a willing victim…” How much more difficult is it to peer through the lens at a friend? The image becomes an uneasy collaboration between competing visions; what the photographer sees and how each person wants to be seen. A third obfuscation is the interplay of colors, asking the viewer to construct a new and unique image of that subject.
